Pak opposes India’s entry into UN Council

Islamabad, March 4
Pakistan said it was opposed to India being given a permanent seat in the UN Security Council in line with its position against the creation of new “power centres” in the world body. “Pakistan’s position is based on principles. We want no new centres of power. The UN Security Council has to be more representative and democratic,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Masood Khan told a weekly press briefing yesterday. He was reacting to French Foreign Minister’s reported statement recently that given the new global realities his country would push for India’s inclusion into the Security Council. — UNI

Pakistan is understood to have decided to testfire its long range Shaheen-II missile that could cover over 2000 km between March 6 and 9.

Unlike its previous missile tests, Pakistan this time has decided to testfire the missile over sea in view of the distance it has to cover. All previous tests of its medium and short-range missile were conducted over land. A general alert warning aircraft and ships in Pakistan coast has been sounded, official sources said. — PTI
