Pirzada released from jail
Tribune News Service

Patiala, February 17
Gurnihal Singh Pirzada, IAS who was released from the Central Jail here, today claimed that his fundamental right to liberty had been violated and that he had full faith in getting his honour restored by the judiciary.

Talking to newspersons after stepping out of the Central Jail, Mr Pirzada said the charges levelled against him were fabricated and he had not caused any loss to the state exchequer by renting out property to a private firm during his tenure as Managing Director of the Punjab State Electronics and Development Corporation (PSEDC).

When questioned about his reported sighting at a gathering of the Punjab Congress dissidents in the company of present Deputy Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal he said he had not attended any such meeting. He said even if this premise was taken to be true, he could not be arrested for taking part in such an activity. “This is not a police state”, he added. Earlier, Mr Pirzada’s wife and some of his friends came to the Central Jail to submit his bail papers.
