ULTA-PULTA
Holy cow
Jaspal Bhatti

WHEN I was in school, all children recited a naughty poem, "Gai hamari mata hai, aage kuchch nahin aata hai!" The cow is revered in India. But for Uma Bharati the CM of Madhya Pradesh, cows seem to form the basis of all economy and politics. She wants a ‘gaushala’ in the CM’s residence and one for every 10-12 village.

Uma Bharati, who won the election on the development issue doesn’t seem to be interested in bijli, sadak and paani at the moment. She perhaps thanks cows are not comfortable in illuminated areas or pucca rooms. Perhaps cows are also not fond of clean drinking water so I guess there’s no urgent need for her to look into the ‘BSP’ (bijli, sadak, paani) issue.

When asked, "Umaji, how will cows put the state economy on sound footing?", she replied "well make agarbattis from cow dung". I think that is a great idea. Half the population will be busy making agarbattis and the other half will be busy reciting hymns while lighting the aggar-battis."Oh God, kindly make our CM wiser."

I suggest that Umaji should make it compulsory for people in government offices to hang photo of cows with national and state dignitaries. Cows can also be made to stand on every road crossing to control the traffic.

A film producer was overheard telling his script writer Bhaiya heroine ka role kam karo, gay (cow) ka role lamba karo. The poor script writer asked, "why, sir?" The producer explained, "probably this is the only way we can get a tax exemption on our film in Madhya Pradesh."
