New Delhi, February 13
The Supreme Court today turned down the plea of Ahmedabad Magistrate to discharge him in the “President warrant scam” case as he was “innocent” and directed the CBI to continue its probe, while observing that media’s right to cover any event could not be curtailed.
When suspended Magistrate M.S. Brahmabhatt’s counsel said that his client was innocent and not involved in any corrupt practice, as alleged by a TV
journalist in his plea that warrants were issued for a bribe of Rs 40,000, a Bench of Chief Justice Mr V.N. Khare, Mr Justice Brijesh Kumar and Mr Justice S.H. Kapadia said the judicial officer would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
After perusing the CBI report, the court directed the agency to submit a further report by February 23. The court also directed the Ahmedabad Police to submit probe report in the case by next hearing.
