New Delhi, February 12
The CBI today filed a chargesheet against Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (S) President Sibu Soren for accumulating assets beyond his known sources of income while he was a MP between June 1991 and March 1993.
In the chargesheet before Special Judge Dinesh Dayal, the investigating agency alleged that during the period the JMM leader had accumulated assets worth Rs 40,89,640 which could not be linked to any known sources of income.
The CBI initiated investigation in the matter after Special Judge Ajit Bharihoke directed a probe into the assets of Soren and others while passing a conviction order in the JMM bribery case on October 12, 2000.
The investigating agency had registered an FIR in the case on November 16, 2000.
Thereafter, the CBI filed Disproportionate Assets cases against JMM leaders Simon Marandi and Suraj Mandal and sought sanction for filing chargesheet against Sibu Soren in January 2003.
In the absence of sanction, the investigating agency had to wait for the dissolution of the Lok Sabha to file the chargesheet as a case could not be initiated against an MP without obtaining a sanction.
