PM dedicates power projects to nation

New Delhi, February 9
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today dedicated to the nation three major hydro-electric projects, including the 300 mw Chamera hydroelectric project in Himachal Pradesh of National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC).

“If India has failed to make progress in tune with expectations and potential for growth it is largely because of lack of foresight for generating electricity from all available resources”, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee said that while dedicating to the nation through video conferencing the 1000 MW Simhadri Thermal Power Station of NTPC and the Chamera project.

The Prime Minister also commissioned the North-Eastern Regional Load Despatch Centre of Powergrid Corporation.

Underlining the importance of energy in the process of economic development Mr Vajpayee said that the government was committed towards the development, of the power sector in the country.

To this effect, work on the plan to generate 50,000 MW of hydro project has already been initiated, he said.

“Work on this project has already started,” he said while saying that all the hill states from Himachal Pradesh to Arunachal Pradesh had great potential for hydro-power.

“Without electricity neither a child can study nor can the country progress”, Mr Vajpayee said.
