Chandigarh, January 28
The Punjab council of ministers today lifted the ban on new recruitments and abolished the post of Pro Vice-Chancellor in all universities. The decision will affect Baba Farid University of Medical Sciences, Faridkot; Punjabi University, Patiala; and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.
The council also decided to set up a commission for Scheduled Castes under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes
(Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. The commission will have four members, including the chairperson. There will be one woman member. The
commission will have a three-years term.
The council also re-fixed the price of government land in urban areas for regularisation of unauthorised occupation or construction thereon. The percentage of the market value fixed by the District Collector, as on April 1, 2001, would be 10 and 15 up to five marlas, 15 and 20 for more than five marlas up to 10 marlas; 20 and 25 for more than 10 marlas up to one kanal, 30 and 32.5 for more than one kanal up to two kanals for residential and commercial purposes, respectively.
In plots more than two kanals, the market value would be 32.5 per cent for the residential properties while no regularisation would be permitted for commercial purposes. These prices would be applicable to all allotments made under the August 23, 2001, policy.
At a meeting with representatives of the Federation of Aarhti Association, Chief Minister, Amarinder Singh, today agreed to abolish the market fee on 13 items. This will mean a loss of nearly Rs 80 lakh to the Mandi Board. He also
conceded the Federation demand to enhance the commission on all crops payable to ahrtiyas from 2 per cent to 2.5 per cent.
