Free import of gold, silver allowed
New Delhi, January 28
Days before the dissolution of the Lok Sabha, the government today announced some major measures on the trade front, including free import of gold and silver and bringing import of capital goods under the duty-free entitlement scheme.

Four Burail jail inmates arrested

With the police remaining “clueless” about the fugitive terrorists Jagtar Singh Hawara and others since they escaped on January 22 from Burail Jail here, the Chandigarh Police today arrested four jail inmates for their suspected role in the escape.

The Punjab council of ministers today lifted the ban on new recruitments and abolished the post of Pro Vice-Chancellor in all universities. The decision will affect Baba Farid University of Medical Sciences, Faridkot; Punjabi University, Patiala; and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.
