Sangma, Pawar remove each other
New Delhi, January 24
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) today split on the issue of aligning with the Congress in the coming Lok Sabha elections with Mr P.A. Sangma “replacing” Mr Sharad Pawar as party president and the latter “expelling” the former from the party.

Sonia to woo Shekhar, V.P. Singh

Besides reaching out to political parties and small groups opposed to the NDA, Congress President Sonia Gandhi is also expected to seek the support of senior leaders like V.P. Singh and Chandra Shekhar in her ongoing efforts to forge an alternative secular alliance.

Another tunnel found in Burail Jail

The Chandigarh police today discovered another tunnel in the Burail Jail linking barrack No 4 to 7 where the three escaped alleged assassins of Beant Singh were lodged even as the Chandigarh and Punjab police claimed to have picked up leads to recapture them.

Delay in announcement of any inquiry into sensational Burail Jail break case by either the Union Home Ministry or the Chandigarh Administration has prompted various political parties, including the Congress, to demand transfer of the case to a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising police and intelligence officers from Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi.

Two years ago, an aged couple of Kalson village near Raikot town here had given a warm send off at Delhi airport to their young daughter, who flew to Manila with her NRI husband. Now, they have been making rounds of the same airport for the past five days to take possession of the body of their daughter, who was allegedly killed for dowry by her in-laws.
