Pre-poll tax sops target middle class
Air travel, mobiles, PCs cheaper
HIGHLIGHTSNew Delhi, January 8
In a clear indication of getting into election mode, the government today unveiled a politically sugarcoated interim budget of sorts by announcing a series of tax sops primarily aimed at wooing the salaried and middle classes. The announcements would not only provide relief from filing tax returns for those earning less than Rs 1.5 lakh per annum, but also reduce the cost of various consumable items and even make air travel cheaper.
