New Delhi, January 7
Pakistan Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has said the modalities to resume the composite dialogue with India will be decided in a ‘’day or two.’’
‘’The modalities should be decided in a day or two,’’ he told the BBC World’s Asia Today programme in an exclusive interview, which will be aired tomorrow.
Mr Jamali said the joint declaration issued by India and Pakistan agreeing on a composite dialogue was the result of a protracted contact between the two countries which started months before the top leadership interacted in person on the sidelines of the SAARC Summit in Islamabad.
He suggested that the India-Pakistan contact was pushed forward by some other countries, which he refused to name.
Mr Jamali said while he would not like to ‘’disclose the names of all players which were involved in this process of facilitating a dialogue,” there were a “number of friends and colleagues on both sides” who helped us.
“I would not like to open all my cards at this instant. The process was also facilitated by some other countries,” he added.
“But most of all it was the positive attitude of the leadership of the countries which clinched the issue in favour of a joint agreement,” he said.
In response to another question about the perception in some circles — especially in Pakistan — that Islamabad has conceded more to India — in terms of offering guarantees on the issue of terrorism, than what it has got in return from New Delhi, Mr Jamali said that both countries would have to rise above stated mindsets and fixed positions if peace was to be achieved.
