Enough evidence against Telgi, says SIT official

New Delhi, January 1
The kingpin of the multi-crore stamp paper racket Abdul Kareem Telgi is now trying to divert the attention of the investigators as he had allegedly revealed some crucial information recently when he was subjected to the scientific interrogation, including brain fingerprinting and nacro analysis, in Bangalore.

“Telgi’s claim that he was not the kingpin and Mohammad Sayeed, who is in custody in Mumbai, is the main suspect is aimed at diverting the course of investigations. Both Sayeed, who was arrested on April 28, 2002, and Telgi are equally important in the stamp paper scam. There is enough evidence to prove that Telgi was behind the whole scam,” maintained an official of the Special Investigation Team (StampIT), Karnataka.

Telgi is believed to have revealed crucial information about his financial dealings, involvement of various important people and other incriminating information during the narco analysis or truth-serum test or forensic hypnotism.

“The test was conducted mainly because the lie-detector test is not useful if one is determined not to cooperate with the officials and experts. That was the reason why the officials sought the permission of the Mumbai High court for conducting a scientific interrogation on Telgi to get the real picture,” observed the official.

“The scientific interrogation which was conducted on him was both video-taped and tape-recorded. The report has been sent to StampIT, Mumbai, for further action.”

Experts feel that the scientific interrogation is more accurate than other tests. Even when officials were probing the Godhra carnage, the Narendra Modi government was unhappy with them. The experts later performed the truth-serum test on five suspects, who disclosed how they entered the train by tearing open the vestibule and torched the train.

During the truth-serum test, the people are given half a dose of anaesthesia to numb their thinking power which eventually brings out the truth, explained an official closely associated with the probe into the stamp paper scam.
