Advani talks to Jayalalithaa

Chennai, January 1
In the midst of political churnings following DMK’s withdrawal from the NDA, Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani today spoke to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa over telephone.

Mr Advani greeted Ms Jayalalithaa on the New Year day and she reciprocated his greetings, an official press note said here.

After the break between the DMK and the NDA, Congress President Sonia Gandhi had telephoned Mr Karunanidhi, greeted him on the New Year day and congratulated him for pulling out of the BJP-led coalition.

In Thiruvananthapuram, BJP President M. Venkaiah Naidu told reporters that his party had not applied its mind on electoral understanding with the AIADMK.

Mr Naidu’s remarks came a day after BJP national secretary L. Ganesan had said in Coimbatore that with the DMK out of the NDA and with an electoral tie-up with the Congress a possibility, the BJP had no hesitation in forging an electoral pact with the AIADMK. — PTI
