Jammu, December 18
Two policemen were killed in an encounter with a terrorist who attacked the office complex of the Deputy Commissioner in Rajouri this morning.

The terrorist was later gunned down by the security forces and an AK-47 and some ammunition was recovered.

The deceased policemen have been identified as Shoukat Amin and Grewal Singh.

The terrorist wearing an Army uniform entered the complex in which the offices of the DIG, DC, SSP and the Superintending Engineer of the PWD are situated. Employees were taken by surprise as he started firing indiscriminately in the PWD office. Two persons were injured and have been admitted to the district hospital.

The employees took shelter under tables as bullets flew by. The encounter lasted about two hours.

The complex is guarded heavily by the police and the security forces.

Meanwhile, four villagers kidnapped on Tuesday night by militants escaped from their hideout in Udhampur forests, sources said.

Three villagers jumped from the hideout into a gorge in the wee hours of the day. The fourth villager had already managed to escape last night. A few militants were searching for him when the others escaped.

The four reported the matter to the police, who along with the BSF launched combing operation to track down the militants.

A report from Baramula said militants abducted and later killed a woman in north Kashmir late on Wednesday, as per official sources. The militants abducted Shaheena from her house at Chand-Gund. Her body was recovered at Wagoora on Thursday.
