HC stays tribunal order on transfers

Bilaspur, November 28
Acting on two petitions by the Election Commission of India, the Chhattisgarh High Court today stayed the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) order cancelling the transfers of district collectors posted in Jashpur and Bastar.

Respite for BSF, villagers

An atmosphere of uneasy truce lies along the border with Pakistan. While the ceasefire along the Line of Control has been widely hailed, villagers residing along the border belt have expressed their suspicions not only about Pakistan’s intentions but also on how long would the period of tranquility prevail.

EU hopes ceasefire will end infiltration
New Delhi, November 28
The European Union today hoped that the comprehensive India-Pakistan ceasefire would lead to an end of infiltration from across the border and a solution to the Kashmir issue.

Abu Salem, Monica Bedi in jail
New Delhi, November 28
Underworld don Abu Salem, wanted by India in connection with the 1993 Mumbai blast case, and his girlfriend Monica Bedi were today sentenced jail term after a Portuguese court found them guilty of forgery and entering Portugal illegally. The Portuguese court sentenced Salem to four-and-a-half-year imprisonment and Bedi to two years, highly placed sources in the CBI here said. — PTI

China has lifted the order of mandatory screening of all passengers coming from India for dengue fever, official sources said here today. China has lifted with immediate effect the mandatory screening of passengers from India for dengue fever, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of India, Mr Debnath Shaw, said.
