Amritsar, November 25
The unearthing of the multi-crore kidney scam did not deter a prospective kidney donor and a recipient from allegedly submitting false affidavits and the attestation of false documents by various authorities.
An inquiry conducted on the request of members of the authorisation committee which screens the cases for organ transplant has revealed that the prospective donor had arranged a false affidavit showing a father while his father had died long ago.
The Executive Magistrate, Tehsildar and the District Food and Supplies Controller may be in the dock for the attestation of the pictures and allegedly preparing a fake domicile certificate and a fake ration card of the prospective donor.
Dr P.S. Bedi, Principal, Government Medical College, and Chairman of the authorisation committee, alleged that the wife of the prospective recipient, who was a senior officer in the Department of the Advocate-General, had also submitted a wrong affidavit to procure a kidney from the unrelated donor.
The two-page report, conducted by Mr Pawan Kumar Rai, SP (City), has alleged that the donor and recipient tried to misguide the authorities.
The prospective donor, Rajinderpal Singh, had given a fake address of Amritsar, while he belonged to Hoshiarpur district. He contacted one Baldev Singh, a resident of Chandigarh, following an advertisement in a daily that said the latter was suffering from kidney failure and needed an organ.
Baldev Singh, his wife and son allegedly submitted a wrong affidavit stating that Rajinder Singh was unmarried and was volunteering to donate his organ out of “love and affection on humanitarian grounds”.
The donor and his family also tried to mislead the authorisation committee that no middleman or agent was involved in the identification of the donor.
During the investigation, the donor confessed that he had submitted a wrong affidavit about his marital status. He was married and had one daughter. The investigation officer has reported that Rajinder Singh committed this act as he was facing economic hardship.
Family members of Baldev Singh say he is suffering from acute kidney failure and such investigations would lead to his mental torture. They have urged the police to treat this case on humanitarian grounds so that a life could be saved.
