35 hurt in bomb attack in Parbhani

Parbhani, November 21
At least 35 persons were injured after two unidentified motor cycle-borne miscreants threw a bomb inside a place of worship in Parbhani in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra today.

The Deputy Chief Minister, Mr Chhagan Bhujbal, told reporters in Mumbai that the blast had taken place late in the afternoon and curfew had been imposed in the area.

Following the incident, tension has gripped the town. All shops and other establishments were closed.

In addition to the State Reserve Police Force, additional forces have been requisitioned from surrounding districts, according to the Parbhani police control room. The forces have been rushed to the area.

Patrolling was being carried out at various sensitive localities, the police said. Mr Bhujbal said as per the reports available with him, the two unidentified persons had hurled a bomb inside a religious place at around 1430 hrs.

The Deputy Chief Minister appealed to the people to maintain peace and assured that the guilty would be brought to book at the earliest.

Earlier, the Maharashtra Minister of State for Home (Rural) Mr Kripashankar Singh told UNI that the blast took place just as the prayers had concluded.

Senior police officers are camping at the site of the blast and detailed investigations are in progress.

Meanwhile, Director General of Police Surendra Mohan Shangari reviewed the security arrangements in the wake of the blast and briefed the Home Department officials here. — UNI
