Ludhiana, November 14
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President and Shiromani Akali Dal leader Gurcharan Singh Tohra has said that the unconditional support extended to the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government at the Centre has cost regional parties, including the SAD, dear.

In the second part of ‘Khariyan Khariyan’ programme On Lashkara to be telecast on Sunday evening at 7.45, the veteran Akali leader has said the fact that by extending unconditional support to the BJP, the SAD has lost a chance to prevail upon the government to meet some of its demands.

Replying to a question by anchor Sidhu Damdami, Mr Tohra has said: “Among the regional parties who joined the BJP-led NDA government, only Mr Chander Baba Naidu has succeeded in protecting his party. The existence of the remaining is in danger. However, some new regional parties like Mulayam Singh’s party have emerged.”

In the programme shot at his native village, Mr Tohra has pointed out that the SAD’s alliance with the BJP has not benefited the Akalis in any manner. At the same time he has said as the SAD represents an important minority community in the country, the BJP needs its help and cannot afford its political decimation.
