PDP leader among 13 killed in Kashmir

Srinagar, November 10
Ten persons, including five ultras and a ruling PDP activist, were killed in separate incidents in Jammu and Kashmir since last night, a police spokesman said today.

PDP activist Ghulam Rasool Wagoora, a contractor by profession, was shot dead from point-blank range by unidentified militants at Awantipora Chowk on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway last night, the spokesman said.

Sixty-year-old Wagoora was on way to his home from a nearby mosque after offering special Ramzan prayers when ultras intercepted him and pumped bullets into his body, using a silencer-fitted pistol, he said. Wagoora was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Three Lashker-e-Toiba militants, including self-styled area commander Abu Zubair, were killed in separate encounters at Bar Behak and Kandi in Kupwara district, the spokesman said. Three AK assault rifles, 1 kg of RDX and some ammunition were recovered from the slain ultras.

In another encounter, two militants were killed by security forces in an operation at Hari Ardan in the Surankote area of Poonch district today.

A woman identified as Neha Devi, injured in a militant attack in Akhnoor last month, succumbed to her injuries, he said.

Militants dragged out Syed Abdul Rashid, a photographer by profession, from his house at Kandoora village of Beerwah in Badgam district and shot him dead. Ultras also struck in nearby Rinkipora and killed a farmer, Bashir Ahmad.
