Daler Mehndi seeks regular bail
Tribune News Service

Patiala, November 1
Pop star Daler Mehndi filed an application for regular bail in the human trafficking case in a local court.

Daler’s advocates arrived at Sadar Police Station in the morning. His lawyer Anand Prakash said that he had offered to submit the property record of the pop star as well as the medical record of his sickness during the past few days to a member of the Special Investigation Team. He was told that no member of the team was present in the police station. The lawyer said following this he asked the Duty Officer to accept the documents which was also declined.

Later while moving a local court for regular bail for Daler Mehndi, the lawyer also pointed out that he had asked the Sadar Police authorities to call a member of the Special Team to the station so that the documents could be handed over to him but was told that the outgoing call facility was not available on the Sadar Station phone.

The application filed on behalf of the pop star claimed that Daler was cooperating with the police and had joined investigation twice in the case after which he could not come for a few days because he had taken ill. The application also stated that Daler had broken business links with his brother Shamsher four years back. The court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mr P.S. Dhanoa, served notice in the case to the State for November 4.

Meanwhile even as Daler’s counsel Ravinder Singh told TNS that his client may approach the Supreme Court to demand a CBI inquiry into the case besides an independent inquiry into the attack on Daler Mehndi, the district police indicated it would go against Daler after the expiry of his bail at midnight. District police chief Paramraj Singh Umranangal said the police would send raiding parties to nab the pop star once his interim bail expired.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, has favoured custodial interrogation of Daler Mahndi.

He was talking to newsmen here after inaugurating the Bank Olympiad at the YPS stadium.
