Security up; HC justifies UP Govt’s action

Notwithstanding the assurance of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Sriramjanambhoomi Nyas that there will be no breach of the peace at their October 17 programme to press for the construction of a Ram temple at the disputed site, tension has mounted in this holy city.

Non-bailable warrant against Daler
Patiala, October 14
A local court today issued non-bailable warrant against Daler Mehndi. According to sources, the warrants were issued following an application filed by the Patiala police. The police claimed that Daler was needed for questioning in illegal immigration case in which his brother Shamsher Mehndi is the main accused.

Directions of the Supreme Court given in 1997 that all highways and important roads should be free from hoardings and display boards notwithstanding, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) government in Haryana has launched a massive programme of “displaying its achievements” on huge (15’x10’) hoardings throughout the state.
