Home Guard jawan kills pregnant daughter

The celebrations at a marriage turned into tragedy when a Home Guard jawan, Mohan Singh, today opened fire with his service rifle on his pregnant daughter killing her on the spot. Her would be brother-in-law was also killed in the shootout while the groom sustained serious bullet injuries.

Though the couple had already got registered their court marriage after eloping but some residents of Mohan Singh’s locality had mediated for arranging a ‘formal marriage’ of the couple.

Mohan Singh had agreed to the formal marriage but he went berserk and opened fire on the couple and family members of her daughter’s husband.

After killing his daughter Inderjit Kaur and her brother-in-law Binder Singh and injuring Harjinder Singh, Mohan Singh did not flee.

He, was immediately overpowered and handed over to the police. Mr Narinder Bhargav, SSP, Tarn Taran, said that a case under Section 307 of IPC had been registered against the culprit.

According to eyewitnesses, the accused had agreed for the ‘arranged marriage’. He then took his daughter to the adjoining house of her would-be-in-laws where he opened indiscriminate firing. Harjinder Singh was rushed to the Civil Hospital in critical condition.
