20 hurt in grenade blast; SPO killed Srinagar, September 30 The police here said that militants hurled a grenade at a patrol party in the market at 11.15 a.m. today. The grenade missed the target and exploded on the road causing injuries to 14 pedestrians and six security force personnel. Security forces recovered two IEDs, a pistol, one magazine with eight rounds and two detonator fuses from Kakuring village in Badgam district. JAMMU:
One special police officer was killed and four others were wounded when a militant hurled a grenade on the police station at Surankot area of Poonch today. The police said that the SPO along with four others were wounded when the grenade exploded causing damage to the police station. The SPO later succumbed to his injuries. He was identified as Munawar Hussain. Soon after the explosion security forces launched a search operation and killed the militant while he was escaping into the nearby forest. In another incident in Marwah in Kishtwar area two militants were killed in an encounter with the security forces that started yesterday evening. According to the police, on a tip-off a hideout was ringed by the security forces and as the police party neared the spot they came under heavy fire. The security forces retaliated killing two militants. Even after the elimination of two rebels the remaining militants in the hide-out engaged the forces in a daylong exchange of fire. Police authorities in Doda confirmed on telephone that the encounter was still on. |
