Yaseen Malik acquitted in TADA case

New Delhi, September 23
A special court today acquitted JKLF chief Yaseen Malik in a TADA case for allegedly “aiding and abetting terrorist activities in the valley”.

Designated Judge S.N. Dhingra acquitted Malik saying that the conspiracy charge levelled against him did not hold ground.

Reacting to the judgement, Malik said: “Justice has been done after a long time”.

Malik was arrested from Delhi on February 13, 1992, on the charges that he had received money from Pakistan’s ISI for promoting terrorist organisations in the Kashmir valley. Sleuths also claimed to have recovered about Rs 4.5 lakh from his possession.

The CBI, which chargesheeted him, alleged that during 1985-1992, Malik conspired with four other accused from different terror outfits for “aiding and abetting” militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.

On February 7, 1992 he and co-accused Mohammed Sheikh, received Rs 7.5 lakh from ISI operatives here, the agency said, adding that they got another Rs 25 lakh on February 10.— PTI
