Ambala, September 24
The controversial religious leader Baba Piara Singh Bhaniarawala was attacked by an assailant outside a court here today.

The attacker, disguised as a follower, sought blessings of the baba who was waiting in a jeep for a case to be called up.

As Bhaniarawala blessed him, the man took out a knife and stabbed him in the neck and back.

Bhaniarawala, who is accused of sacrilege, had come to appear in a case in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Surya Partap Singh.

The baba, who was first taken to the local Civil Hospital, was later referred to the PGI, Chandigarh.
