Two killed, 22 injured in Srinagar grenade blast
Army men kill 10 foreign terrorists in Poonch dist

Srinagar, September 11
Two persons, including a student of the local Women’s College, were killed and 22 others, including a jawan, injured when militants hurled a grenade in the Lal Chowk area here today.

The injured were admitted to several hospitals where one of them succumbed to injuries this evening, the sources added.

A pro-Pakistan outfit, the Al-Umar Mujahideen, claimed responsibility for the explosion.

The police said Rehana Hameed, a student of Women’s College, MA Road, died on the spot and 21 others were injured when militants hurled a grenade towards a security picket near Clock Tower, Lal Chowk, at about 1 p.m. today. The grenade missed the intended target and exploded on the busy road. This was the third such attack by militants in the Lal Chowk area, the nerve centre of Srinagar, during the past five weeks.

One person died in exchange of fire between militants and security forces at Buchoo in Tral in Pulwama district last evening.

Mohammad Rafiq Wakhda, undergoing treatment at a hospital here for injuries sustained in militant firing in the Kangan area, succumbed to his injuries today.

Two securitymen were injured when suspected militants opened fire on a patrol party at Wanigam, in Kreeri in Baramula district yesterday. One house was damaged in the exchange of fire.

JAMMU: In a major breakthrough, the Army killed 10 foreign mercenaries of the Harkat-ul-Jehad-e-Islam when they infiltrated into Indian territory from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in the Mendhar area of Poonch district on Thursday.
