Environment awareness lacking
in India, China Chandigarh September 5 The experts, who participated in the workshop organised by the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, resolved that an integrated approach to incorporate environment in technical education was not being followed in these countries. On the concluding day of the workshop in hotel Mount View, the experts agreed that appropriate teaching material for such an integration was not available in these countries and there was a need to develop the same. The experts recommended that TVE programmes needed to be designed as comprehensive system to accommodate economic and ecological needs through partnership and cost sharing between government, employees, TVE institutions, NGOs and the society. Streaming of institutional framework at national level, curriculum modifications, review and regular updating, networking for information sharing, capacity building and industry swaps were also recommended. The workshop further recommended the development of policy guidelines for incorporation of environment education in the TVE at national and international level, development of a standard curriculum and promotion of practical projects based training of technical and vocational students. Speaking on the valedictory function today, Dr
O.P. Bajpai, Principal, Technical Teachers Training Institute, Sector 26, suggested that for successful integration environment education in the TVE in Asia, both financial and human resources needed to be pooled in to adopt a focused Asia-specific programme. 17 advocates surrender licences The Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana has decided to verify the degrees of advocates who had obtained licence from the bar council since January 1, 1996, from different universities like Lucknow, Bundelkhand, Awadhesh Pratap Singh, Barkatula, Magadh, Meerut, Agra, Garhwal, Ajmer, Rajastham and any other Universities to be decided later on by the special committee. Chandigarh, September 5 Mr Munjal said the remaining four advocates sought time to study the verification report of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana and would file their reply by October 8. Mr Munjal said some of the advocates admitted that they got the degree through agents, which were later found to be forged and fake. Mr Munjal added that keeping in view the seriousness of the matter it was decided to get all the degrees of advocates to be verified who had obtained licence since January 1, 1996, from different universities like Lucknow, Bundelkhand, Awadhesh Pratap Singh, Barkatula, Magadh, Meerut, Agra, Garhwal, Ajmer, Rajastham and any other universities to be decided later on by the special committee. The bar council had issued show cause notices to those advocates who allegedly procured fake law degrees. The advocates have been asked to explain “why their name may not be removed from the roll of the bar council”. Taking a serious view of the rampant corruption in awarding law degrees, the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana had barred the advocates from practising in the Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh courts on August 3. The Chandigarh Tribune had highlighted the fake degrees law scandal on June 1, last year. The scam had came to light when the council conducted verification of the applications moved by law graduates for the bar council’s licence. The authorities of the concerned university informed the bar council that law graduates who were in dock had not obtained roll numbers of the university and submitted fake attendance
cards. The authorities also confirmed the council that the students have procured fake law degrees.
