The Open Hand stands out against the skyline of City Beautiful
The Open Hand stands out against the skyline of City Beautiful

CHANDIGARH completes 50 years of its existence later this year. It has come a long way since its formal inauguration by the first President of India, Dr Rajendra Prasad, on October 7, 1953. This may thus be a good occasion to examine some of the major problems facing City Beautiful, its future prospects and to determine how far it has drifted from its original concept.

Trailing a rogue elephant

T
HERE is no choice but to kill an elephant declared a 'rogue'. But the job is dangerous and needs utmost precision. Arch hunters Ranjit Mukherjee and Chanchal Sircar of Kolkata share their experience with Uttara Gangopadhyay.

Heavy action, slim storyline

EMEMBER the scene in King Kong where the monster holds Jessica Lange in the palm of his hand? Well there’s almost something like that in Hulk with Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind) being the beauty with the beast. And there’s much more of the Gulliver-in-Lilliput effect to keep the viewer going.
