Mars at its dazzling best

New Delhi, August 27
Mars came closest to Earth today after almost 60,000-long years as enthusiastic Indians turned towards the night sky to observe the red planet at its dazzling best.

Visible as the bright object on the south south-east horizon, it outshines even Jupiter which is the closest to Earth.

At the time of its closest approach at 3.31 pm, Mars was at a distance of 55.76 million km than its usual 62 million km, but was not visible as it was daytime for India. But as night fell, young and old, some carrying binoculars, came out of their homes and turned towards the sky to have a rendezvous of a lifetime. — UNI
