Jawan killed, DIG hurt
in attack on CTO
Srinagar, August 27 BSF constable Des Raj succumbed to wounds in hospital where he and eight other injured were moved after militants hurled a grenade on security personnel in a bid to storm the CTO building around 7 p.m. Deputy Inspector-General of BSF Desh Raj who was also injured, has been rushed to Soura Medical Institute, the sources said. Two militants belonging to Al-Mansooren outfit lobbed a grenade near the main gate of the BSNL building in their bid to gain entry into the building, but took shelter in a nearly hotel when faced with retaliatory fire at the hands of forces deployed there. As the securitymen took up position outside the hotel, they exchanged intermittent firing with the militants holed up in the building, which also houses offices of several local dailies, the sources said. JAMMU: Three Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and a jawan were injured when suspected Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militants attacked an army camp in Udhampur district today while a police officer and a civilian were killed by ultras in Doda and Poonch districts, respectively. Police sources said suspected LeT ultras this evening attacked the Army camp at Sahar village in Mahore area of Udhampur district with rifle grenades from a nearby hill. Three JCOs and a jawan were injured when a grenade exploded inside the camp. The ultras managed to escape to the nearby thick forest. The injured have been airlifted to Northern Command Army Hospital at Udhampur. A search operation is on to nab the militants. Elsewhere, Hizbul Mujahideen ultras shot dead Special Police Officer (SPO) Gulam Rasool at Chicha Dechan village in Marwah area of Kishtwar tehsil of Doda district early today, sources added. One civilian was killed in cross firing between militants and security forces at Gursai Top area in Poonch district today. |
