Jathedar Vedanti pledges eyes Amritsar, August 16 The Eye Donation Association, Hoshiarpur, headed by Mr J.B. Behl and Bhai Ghanayia Ji Mission Society, Amritsar, headed by Prof Bahadur Singh Sunet met the Jathedar to apprise him of the benefits of these donations and persuaded him to appeal for voluntary donations. The Jathedar especially appealed to the youth to voluntary donate blood at least once in a year which would be a valuable contribution towards saving human lives. The Bhai Ghanayia Ji Mission, which periodically conducts medical camps and seminars for extending free help and awareness about various life-threatening problems and diseases, in a letter to the SGPC President and the Honorary Chief Secretary SGPC, Mr Manjit Singh Calcutta, urged the SGPC to set up a blood donation center. The mission urged that a voluntary blood donation centre by the SGPC could be set up near the Golden Temple complex with the help of a government-recognised blood bank. Explaining the need for blood donation, the mission stated that requirement of blood annually was about 70 lakh units, but only one third of this was collected. |
