Doctors suspend strike
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, August 12
The Punjab Civil Medical Services (PCMS) Association today decided to suspend its proposed strike from August 13 following an assurance from the government. The government said an expert committee would look into the issue of non-practising allowance in the context of ensuring effective delivery of service, particularly in the rural areas, elimination of private practice and curbing absenteeism.

A spokesman for the government said tonight that the association took the decision after its representatives, Dr M.S. Randhawa and Dr Hardeep Singh, had a meeting with the Health Minister, Mr R.C. Dogra; the Chairman of the Punjab Health Systems Corporation, Col C.D.S. Kamboj (retd); and the Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Mr D.S. Jaspal.

The association affirmed complete support to Chief Minister’s concerns about private practice and absenteeism.
