Tribune News Service

New Delhi, August 11
After a long debate and delay, the government has decided to introduce a Bill in Parliament during the current session for a nationwide ban on cow slaughter and bring the issue under the Concurrent List which has Centre’s control.

The proposal to introduce the Bill for the banning of cow slaughter was cleared by the Union Cabinet at its meeting here. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj told reporters after the meeting that once the bill is passed by Parliament, the decision to ban cow slaughter would be “binding” on all states under the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution.
