Manali-Rohtang road closed after boulder threat
M. C. Thakur

Manali, August 10
The district administration today said vehicular traffic on the Manali-Rohtang national highway, would remain suspended on August 11 and 12, as a 35-metre boulder was hanging precariously at Rahla fall, about 29 km from here.

According to the SDM, Manali, the decision had been taken in view of the warning received from the BRO office. He said since there could be threat to life and property from the boulder, vehicles would be allowed movement only after the boulder was removed.

Meanwhile, two days after 39 persons were killed due to flash-floods at Kangani Nullah near Solang, the Deputy Commissioner, Mr R.D. Nazeem, today ordered a magisterial inquiry into the mishap. The inquiry has been ordered to look into the cause, leading to the mishap and to ascertain if there was negligence on the part of the BRO, the project implementing authority. The inquiry will be conducted by the Additional District Magistrate (ADM), Mr H.R. Thakur.
