Laloo brings down the house

Islamabad, August 10
Former Bihar Chief Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav stole the show at the inaugural session of an India-Pakistan meet here, with the audience in stitches several times during his 20-minute speech.

“I know people laugh at me...and I enjoy that,” he said amidst applause. “This is the power of democracy and power of the vote that made a person like me so popular.”

Not for nothing was Mr Yadav the most sought after person, with Pakistani journalists and TV channels vying to interview him.

When a journalist suggested he should have brought his wife Rabri Devi to Pakistan, Mr Yadav replied, “Then who would have taken care of Bihar? It’s me and my wife who take care of the state.”

Said Mr Yadav during his speech, “Let me tell you that the people of Bihar are very intelligent and that’s the reason they selected me and then Rabri Devi to rule the state. They know who can best protect their rights.” — IANS
