Amritsar, July 24
The Sikh clergy today declared the hukamnama (edict) issued by Takht Patna Sahib declaring Mr Mohinder Singh Romana, president of the Gurdwara Management Committee, Patna Sahib, a tankhiya as null and void.

A meeting of the Sikh high priests held at Akal Takht secretariat here today announced that under clause 79 of the constitution bylaws of the management Takht Patna Sahib, the edict issued against Mr Romana was against the Sikh tradition.

While Giani Iqbal Singh, Jathedar, Takht Patna Sahib had claimed that all the five Takhts, could pronounce ‘hukamnama’, Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti said Akal Takht has the sole right to declare any Sikh as ‘tankhiya’.

The Sikh clerics also directed the management of Takht Patna Sahib not to take any decision against Mr Romana in their forthcoming meeting to be held on July 27.

It may be mentioned that the high priests of Takht Patna Sahib had directed the gurdwara management to remove Mr Romana as president for allegedly using derogatory language against the Jathedars and ‘Dasam Granth’.

The meeting attended by Jathedar Vedanti Giani Tirlochan Singh, Giani Balwant Singh Nandgarh, Giani Jagtar Singh and Giani Gurbachan Singh said as Mr Romana’s case was pending before Akal Takht, the management of Takht Patna Sahib could not take any decision in its forthcoming meeting.
