PM won’t quit, BJP tells Singhal

Chennai, July 9
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president, Mr M. Venkaiah Naidu, today rejected the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) international president Ashok Singhal’s demand for the resignation of the Prime Minister, Mr A.B. Vajpayee, for his “failure” to bring about a legislation for the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

In a brief chat with newspersons at the airport here, Mr Naidu, who was here to attend the RSS conclave, said as long as Mr Vajpayee enjoyed the confidence of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), there was no question of him resigning.

Top leaders of the RSS, who had attended the party executive meeting in Kanyakumari, are meeting here, but its chief, Mr K.S. Sudarshan is not present. — UNI, PTI
