Badal-Amarinder issue not discussed
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, July 5
Punjab Governor O P Verma, who met Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani here today, refused to be drawn into the “Badal-Amarinder controversy” saying that he was not in a position to say whether the raids being conducted by the Vigilance Bureau on Akali Dal chief’s properties were wrong or right.

“How can I say ‘yes’ or ‘no’...It was up to the political parties to decide,” Mr Verma told newspersons when asked whether he considered as ‘wrong’ the raids being conducted on Badal’s properties by the Vigilance Bureau.

The meeting took place at the Deputy Prime Minister’s residence.

Asserting that the Badal issue was not discussed at all during the meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Verma said he was not aware of what kind of proof or evidence the State Vigilance Bureau had against Mr Badal.

Asked whether he had been asked to submit any report by the Centre on the prevailing political situation in Punjab, Mr Verma said “nobody has asked for any kind of report from me. When somebody asks for the same I will do the needful.”

Asked about the purpose of today’s meeting, Mr Verma refusing to divulge the purpose of his meeting said “I know what you are trying to make out. Let me assure you that the Badal-Amarinder issue was not discussed at all.”
