Pak troops pound Dras sector

Srinagar, July 1
Hours before Pakistani High Commissioner-designate Aziz Ahmed Khan crossed over into India to take charge of his assignment, troops from across the border fired more than 100 mortar and artillery shells on the Dras sector, killing a villager and disrupting life for the second day today.

Official sources said Pakistani troops pounded over 100 mortar and artillery shells on the Dras sector. They targeted civilian areas and security force installations for the second day today.

Life in Dras including Goshan, Moradbagh and Mushkoh near the LoC, was badly affected due to the shelling.

The sources said some shells fell on a house at Goshan killing Zakir Hussain on the spot. At Muradbagh and Mushkoh there was no report of any casualty or damage to property.

A resident, Ghulam Mohammad said over phone from Dras that heavy shelling continued throughout the night till 7 am. He said intermittent shelling was continuing. — UNI
