VB sleuths measure Badal’s farm
Tribune News Service

Kharar, July 1
Continuing with the search operations, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau today carried out thorough search operations at the Continental Hatchery-cum- Poultry farm, owned by former Punjab Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal President, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, at Palanpur village, 25 km from here, in Ropar district.

Armed with search warrants, a 15-member vigilance team led by Mr Amarjit Singh, descended at the 10-acre farm area here to search Mr Badal’s properties in connection with a disproportionate assets case registered against him and seven others.

The four-hour search, however, failed to yield “anything incriminating”. Though the SP, Vigilance Bureau, Mr Amarjit Singh, declined to comment on the outcome of the search, he confirmed that no recovery was made from there. “Our job is to measure the area for evaluation purposes and not look for incriminating objects,” he added.

The team, comprising the DSP Mr Paramjeet Singh Khaira, five Inspectors, three SDOs from the PWD Department and three architects took detailed measurements of the whole area and made assessment of the property, besides preparing site plans on the spot, said Mr Babbi Badal, a relative of Mr Badal who was present there while the operation was on. The team, later handed over a copy of the list prepared by them to him.

On the other hand, hundreds of Akali supporters who gathered there in no time, once again resisted the search operations and shouted slogans against the sleuths and the Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, for undertaking such an exercise.

The vigilance team, which reached the place at 10 am and left only after 3 pm, did not talk to the mediapersons present there. Some of the Akali activists and a chowkidar staying there with his family alleged that even yesterday some officials of the vigilance team had come to the poultry farm area for the search operations and during the search, they did not even leave out the chowkidar’s premises.
