Delhi power tariff up
New Delhi, June 26
There is no respite for Delhiites. Reeling under power cuts, the domestic users will have to reckon with a tariff hike of 25 paise per unit from July 4. The will pay Rs 1.75 per unit for the first hundred units, as against Rs 1.50 earlier, and Rs 2.35 per unit in the upto 200 unit slab. The earlier charges were Rs 2.10, Rs 3.25 and Rs 3.85 per unit in the 201-400 unit and above 400 unit slabs, respectively.

Ghaziabad, June 26
The residents of Kanawani village, which falls under Indirapuram police station, detained a bridegroom and the marriage party for demanding dowry at the eleventh hour. A motor cycle and Rs. 20,000 were reportedly demanded at the time of departure of the doli.

DCC flays action to deprive farmers of land
Sonepat, June 26
The action of the district administration, aimed at “dispossessing” nearly 50 families of Ahulana village under the Ganaur subdivision of around 600 acres of panchayat land, on which they had been farming for a decade, has been criticised by the District Congress Committee. The DCC alleged that the arrest of 88 farmers and lodging of criminal charges against them was illegal and discriminatory.

The English play ‘Womanly Voices’ would be premiered at the India Habitat Centre. Premiered by the Johnnie Walker Club on June 28, ‘Womanly Voices’ is directed by the well-known theatre personality and actress Lillette Dubey, and is a dramatization of three short stories-‘Utaran’ by Wajeda Tabassum, ‘Shishu’ by Mhasweta Devi and ‘The Teacher’s Story’ by Gita Mehta.
