Delhi-Lahore bus: Indo-Pak talks on June 18
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, June 11
In a move to impart impetus to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s initiative to set the peace process between the two South Asian neighbours in motion, a technical team from Pakistan is arriving here on June 18 to pave the way for the resumption of the Delhi-Lahore bus service.

While the Pakistani team will be headed by the Deputy Managing Director of the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation, the Indian side will be led by the Chairman of the Delhi Transport Corporation, Mr A.J.S. Sahney, during the talks, an External Affairs Ministry spokesman told newspersons here.

“Pakistan proposed June 18,19 and 20 for the visit of the technical team and these days are convenient to us,” the External Affairs Ministry spokesman confirmed. The Pakistan side would comprise three members.

Islamabad’s offer to send an official delegation was conveyed by its Deputy High Commissioner in New Delhi Munawar Bhatti to the IPA desk of the Ministry of External Affairs.

The PTDC was Pakistan’s official agency responsible for running the bus service from Lahore. Pakistan’s decision to send the team followed a India’s offer earlier this month that it was ready to receive delegation from Islamabad to discuss the revival of the passenger bus service.
