Hyderabad, June 6
The police opened fire at some places in the Old City of Hyderabad today to disperse unruly mobs indulging in stone-throwing and damaging public and private properties, injuring several people, including two policemen.

The day’s violence was a sequel to the clashes between two groups belonging to different communities in the Mallepalli area last evening which left a 55-year-old man dead and several others, including 10 policemen, injured.

During the funeral procession today, angry mobs indulged in continuous stone-throwing in Mallepalli, damaging a car at the MCH market. Several business establishments, including a cafe, a hotel and medical shops, were also stoned.

Miscreants set ablaze two scooters parked near the Agapura branch of the State Bank of India and set fire to a wine shop near a Charminar bus stop. A motor cycle parked near Agapura cross-roads was also burnt.

The police said mobs indulged in heavy stone-throwing at different areas in the Old City. Sub-Inspector Hanumantha Rao and Head Constable Khaja Mohiuddin were injured in stone-throwing at Habeebnagar. UNI
