Heatwave kills one more in Haryana Chandigarh, June 6 Amritsar, again turned hottest today with the mercury soaring to 46.2°C, five degrees above normal to make it the hottest place in the region. Hisar, bordering Rajasthan, remained plunged into darkness for hours following a high-velocity dust storm last night, while the people groaned under 34.4°C, minimum temperature. The day temperature today shot up to 43.7°C, four degrees above normal. Three days ago, the mercury had shot up to 47.9°C, six degrees above normal in Hisar. The Weather Bureau here said Rohtak and surrounding areas in Haryana reported traces of rains. But strong dust-raising winds swept away the clouds. Ambala reported a high of 43.7°C, three degrees above normal. The maximum in and around Chandigarh today rose to 42.6°C, three degrees above normal. Ludhiana at 44.9°C and Patiala at 44.3°C also faced blistering heat, both reporting three degrees above normal temperatures. Shimla also turned hotter with the mercury soaring by five degrees above normal to 29.4°C. Five degrees above normal temperature were also reported from Sundar Nagar and Bhuntar as the mercury soared there to 39.7°C and 37.6°C, respectively. Srinagar, turned hot by three degrees at 31.5°C and Jammu sizzled at 44°C. Delhi too was subjected to sizzling hot weather with the maximum rising to 43.1°C at Safdarjung and 44°C at Palam. Weather forecasters predict no let-up in the ongoing heatwave and have forecast dust and thunder storms in the plains of the region and isolated rains or thundershowers in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.
