No decision on Pak envoy to India

Islamabad, May 20
Uncertainty over the appointment of the new Pakistani High Commissioner to India continues with its Foreign Ministry spokesman today saying that a decision in this regard has not yet been taken.

Mr Aziz Ahmed Khan said: “No decision has yet been taken in this regard,” responding to a media query that Pakistani Prime Minister Mir Zaffarullah Jamali had said that Mr Raiz Ahmad Khan would be its new envoy to New Delhi. The spokesman said Mr Jamali was not quoted accurately on the subject.

On when a decision could be expected, he cited the protocol requirements that have to be fulfilled before announcing the name.

As part of the fresh initiatives towards normalisation of the bilateral relations, Pakistan is expected to appoint its envoy to New Delhi, with India having appointed Mr Shiv Shankar Menon as its envoy to Islamabad. UNI
