Jalandhar, May 13
The teams deputed by the Punjab Health Department authorities to inspect the Kartarpur-based Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital owned by Dr Gurvinder Singh Samra, who is facing 13 different cases and on whose complaint the CBI has booked two judicial officials, today returned empty handed after finding the hospital locked.

The health authorities swung into action today after receiving a letter from the SSP, Mr Varinder Kumar, that the hospital should be sealed after proper inspection, as it had allegedly become a central place from where Dr Samra had allegedly been carrying out his illegal activities and deceiving gulible patients and others. The SSP had also contended that Dr Samra was not a qualified doctor and had been practising illegally.

The Health Department officials went to the hospital at Kartarpur in the morning but could not do anything as nobody turned up to open it. “Our teams have returned after waiting there for a long time,” said Dr O.P. Chhabra, Civil Surgeon, while admitting that a letter from the police authorities was received by his office yesterday.

Dr Chhabra said the sealing of the hospital and further investigations would be done once it was found open. Meanwhile, a list available with the Jalandhar police revealed that Dr Samra, who was not available since the arrest of District and Sessions Judge R.M. Gupta, who was suspended yesterday had been booked at Kartarpur and Jalandhar police stations under Sections, 452, 427, 448, 447, 148, 149, 420, 468, 471, 469, 384, 411, 406, of the IPC, Section 15 of the Indian Medical Council Act 1956 and the Drugs Act.

With the prime accused in the corruption case, UT Judicial Magistrate S.S. Bhardwaj still absconding, the CBI today sounded red alert at all international airports and sea ports to prevent him from fleeing the country. CBI officials today met the local SSP, Mr Varinder Kumar, at his office for about half an hour.

According to sources, keeping in view the possibility that Mr Bhardwaj, who has been absconding since Saturday when he was caught red-handed while accepting bribe, could flee the country, the CBI has sounded the alert. Photos of the magistrate, the sources maintained, were also submitted to the authorities concerned.

Reports available here indicated that bank lockers of Mr Bhardwaj had been sealed in Chandigarh and Jalandhar, which will be opened tomorrow after completing all formalities.
