Tribune News Service

New Delhi, April 30
For the first time in the history of the higher judiciary, a former high court judge was today arrested by the CBI in an alleged corruption case. The agency arrested the former Delhi High Court judge, Justice Shamit Mukherjee, in connection with the DDA scam after raiding his official residence and two other premises in Chittranjan Park this morning.

Justice Mukherjee had recently resigned after the scam had surfaced as the agency alleged that four important files, relating to DDA cases pending in his court, were recovered from the premises of a conduit involved in the scam.

The CBI claimed that it had recovered several 'incriminating' documents during the raids and had seized two locker keys from his premises. Justice Mukherjee, who was taken to the CBI Headquarters for questioning after the raids, was subsequently put under arrest. He was being further interrogated, sources said.
