Rajan Kashyap new Punjab Chief Secy

Chandigarh, April 29
Mr Rajan Kashyap will be the new Chief Secretary of Punjab. He will succeed Mr Y. S. Ratra, who retires tomorrow after having availed of a three-month extension. This was announced by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh here today.

The Chief Minister said the government would seek a three-month extension for Mr Kashyap after his retirement on July 31.

Mr Kashyap, an officer of the 1965 IAS batch, is the second seniormost IAS officer in the country after Cabinet Secretary Kamal Pande.

Born on July 30, 1943, Mr Kashyap holds a degree of master of philosophy from the University of Cambridge, UK. He topped Panjab University in MA (English) in 1961-63. Besides literature, he is fond of music, yoga and tennis. Mr Kashyap has held key posts in the government and policy management. It has been a long journey for him — from a lecturer in English at Panjab University till July, 1965, to the post of the Chief Secretary.

Ratra to be PSEB chief

He is slated to take over from Mr Sudhir Mittal, a senior IAS officer.Back
