Tribune News Service

New Delhi, April 16
Punjabis no longer will have to take a trip to other states to enjoy casino games, thanks to the initiative taken by the Punjab Government to allow casinos in the state.

A new enactment for licensing of casino gaming and amendments in the Gambling Act applicable to the state will be made for the purpose, the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, said.

“If Punjabis can play in casinos in other states or countries, then why not in their own state”, the Chief Minister asked. He said not only would the casinos provide another source of entertainment to the fun loving Punjabis, they would also bring huge revenues to the state. The idea of starting casinos was mooted when a Canadian firm first contacted the Chief Minister with a proposal.

Following that, efforts in the direction began and the Tourism Department of the state has gone through acts governing casinos in other states like Goa The casino Bill is near finalisation.
