Resolution on cow slaughter ban adopted

New Delhi, April 10
Amidst turmoil and opposition walkout, a private member’s resolution, moved by a BJP member, seeking ban on cow slaughter was adopted in the Lok Sabha today.

The resolution was approved by voice vote after two hours of uproar, procedural wrangles and verbal duel between the Opposition and Treasury benches over the legislative competence of Parliament to put a state subject to vote. After Opposition members vehemently objected to voting on the resolution moved by Mr Prahlad Singh Patel on the ground that Parliament was not competent to make law on any state subject, it was put to vote by Speaker Manohar Joshi.
